Abdominal Hernia / Hiatus Hernia
Active Fissure or fistula
Bladder disease
Anaemia (104g/L or less)
Anal tears
Aneurism
Any recent surgery or biopsy to the colon, prostate or rectum,
Autonomic dysreflexia (a condition of the involuntary nervous system).
Abdominal surgery within the last 28 weeks.
Blood pressure above 160/100
Blood pressure below 100/50
Bowel biopsy within the last 6 months
Bowel obstruction eg, tumour, adhesions
Bowel or rectal prolapse
Bowel perforation
Carcinoma of the colon or rectum
Chemotherapy OR radiotherapy either being currently received, or received within the last 12
months)
Cirrhosis or impaired liver function
Colitis/ Ulcerative Colitis
Colon/ rectal/ bowel cancer
Diabetes uncontrolled or unbalanced
Colorectal surgery (within the last 6 months)
C-section less than 6 months ago
Crohn’s Disease
Currently receiving treatment for cancer – radiotherapy, chemotherapy
Diverticulitis
Eating disorders
Epilepsy –not controlled
Fistula
Gastro-intestinal haemorrhage/perforation/bleed
Have a baby under 4 months old
Heart disease or Heart failure, other heart complications
High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) NOT well controlled by medication
Hip or Knee surgery within the last 6 months
Hirschsprung’s disease
Inflamed Haemorrhoids, painful or bleeding Inguinal Hernia
Intussusception
Liver, gall bladder disease
Liver OR kidney’s not functioning normally
Long term steroid use
Neutropenic (medically diagnosed low or no immune system)
Paralytic Ileus
Persistent Diarrhoea
Pregnant or given birth within 6 months
Prostate biopsy within the last 6 months
Radiotherapy of abdominal area within the last 2 years.
Reduced kidney function (Renal insufficiency)
Recent Laparoscopy (less than 12 weeks)
Rectal bleeding
Renal Insufficiency
Severe Cardiac Disease
Severe persistent diarrhoea
Tight sphincter, either been medically diagnosed, or you have previously been unable to tolerate
the insertion of a speculum to the anus.
