Pre and Post Colonic Hydrotherapy Treatment Advice

Before you go for your treatment, you are advised to prepare using these steps:

  • Drink plenty of water on the days leading up to your treatment. Limit fluids for 1 hour prior to your treatment.
  • Avoid heavy meals on the day of your treatment. Do not consume any food for the 3 hours prior to your treatment.
  • Where possible, avoid red meats, dairy, processed foods and alcohol leading up to your treatment.

After your treatment, you are advised to prepare using these steps:

  • Don’t overeat. Eat small portions of simply cooked or raw food and chew well. A diet rich in fruit and vegetables (especially leafy vegetables) will add to the cleansing effect and help to regulate bowels.
  • Avoid red meat which is hard for the body to digest. Instead, choose chicken, fish, and vegetarian meals, which are digested more easily.
  • Avoid processed and refined carbohydrates. Eat brown rice, wholemeal pasta, wholemeal bread and sourdough bread.
  • Avoid dairy and sugar as they are mucus forming.
  • You may encounter a greater desire to urinate due to water absorbed during the colonic; this is normal and will subside quickly.
  • You may not need to open your bowels for as long as a few days post-treatment, although you may experience increased flatulence and bowel sounds. This is perfectly normal following the procedure,as the waste from your bowel has been emptied. Probiotics are recommended daily and fruit and vegetables will help.
  • Avoid alcohol for 48 hours.
  • Drink at least 2 litres of water daily. For weak digestion, avoid drinking fluids with meals and avoid fluids for 30 minutes before and 1 hour after meals.
  • If pain and griping is experienced following treatment, try peppermint, chamomile or fennel tea.
  • Avoid cold and fizzy drinks and gassy foods.
  • Avoid vigorous exercise for 48 hours.
